     Southwest Madison County, Mississippi

Henry Presley Posey

Flora Cemetery records indicate the area was settled in the mid-1830s.  In 1882, what is now Flora was chosen as a depot site for the Illinois Central Railroad.  The area was named Flora for the wife of W.B. Jones, who gave the railroad the right of way.  Flora became a town in 1886.
